We organize medical devices based on the classification system of the US Food and Drug Administration (see USFDA webpage), that organizes around 600,000 commercial medical devices (updated at a rate of hundreds to thousands of new devices every day) into over 1,700 different generic types of devices in 19 medical specialties, as shown in the table below.  Each device is identified by the following parameters:

1. The medical specialty of the device (e.g., 870 Cardiovascular, where 870 is the 3-digit "regulation citation number").

2. The device type within a medical specialty (e.g., 870.3610 Implantable Pacemaker Pulse Generator, where 870.3610 is the 7-digit "regulation number").

3. The device subtype within a device type (e.g., PNJ Leadless Pacemaker is a subtype in 870.3610, where PNJ is the 3-letter "product code").

4. Within a device subtype, a certain device is identified by the device name, manufacturer, and other details.
